Cora E. Beavers, aged 90, goes to be with the Lord September 6, 2013, following a two week battle with a broken hip and spreading cancer. Cora Beavers crossed into the Heavenly part of eternal life at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Friday at Hospice Ministries in Jackson, Mississippi.

Cora was born in the small town of DeSoto in southern Illinois October 4, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Jessie and Hallie Cochran and was the last remaining survivor of her four siblings (Wiley, Wayne, Verna, and Lois). Cora married Paul Beavers on April 24, 1944 and they were married for 44 years before his passing in 1988.

Though Cora had a lovely “earthly” family, she was “mom” to many more as she offered comfort, advice, and prayer support to most anyone she encountered. She loved Jesus Christ and to serve Him was her life’s desire and fulfillment. She faced many difficult physical challenges in her life including thyroid cancer, and serious injuries suffered from an automobile accident. In those circumstances, she exemplified faith and confidence in a living Lord to whom all things are possible including the enabling of His children to “do all things through Christ”, even hard things that are difficult to understand.

She is survived by her two sons and two daughters-in-laws (Jerry and Barbara from Jackson, Mississippi, and David and Cindy from Huntsville Alabama). She has 8 grandchildren, and 13 great grand children.

Funeral services will be held at Liberty Church, in Pensacola, FL on Wednesday, September 11. Family viewing will take place from 9-10; public viewing from 10-11 with services following and interment taking place in Memorial Gardens in Mobile, Alabama. A memorial service will be held at Highlands Presbyterian Church in Ridgeland, MS. Thursday, September 12th at 1:00.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ministry of your choice. Oak Lawn Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
