Daniel Asa Dennis, Jr., a native of Mobile, Alabama went to be with his Lord on December 24, 2019. A faithful and honorable gentleman, Poppa remained the model husband, father, and grandfather for his family until his death, and his influence will endure for generations. Born on September 20, 1924, Dan graduated from Murphy High School. He married his beloved wife of 72 years, Cecil Easley Dennis, in 1946. During World War II, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served for three years. Following the war, he graduated from Howard College School of Pharmacy (Samford University) in Birmingham, Alabama in 1950 and owned Dan's Drug Store in Mobile, Alabama for 38 years before retiring in 1992. His time as a pharmacist included service as President of the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy in 1967 and as Secretary from 1968-1973. Dan remained a devoted member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church since joining in 1946, and his fellow members of the Monday Morning Prayer Group will serve as honorary pallbearers. His seven grandsons will serve as pallbearers. He is preceded in death by his wife, Cecil Easley Dennis, his parents, Ardelle Smith Dennis and Daniel Asa Dennis and his brother, Berlon Eugene Dennis. He is survived by his son, Daniel Asa Dennis, III (Kim), daughter, Susan Grace Dennis Pitt (Roger) of Greensboro, Georgia, seven grandchildren, Daniel Asa Dennis, IV (Maribeth), Joseph Steward Dennis, Captain William Todd Pitt (Julie), Charles Lloyd Dennis (Joslyn), Joseph Benjamin Pitt, Asa McCoy Pitt, Samuel Burnette Dennis (Mae), two step-grandchildren, Kimberly Noel Rippy (Anderson) and Elizabeth Winfield Duvall, great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren. Dan will be laid to rest in a private graveside service for his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dauphin Way Baptist Church Building fund or a favorite charity.
