David E. Bryars, Sr. was born on February 6, 1939 to James Merle and Flaudia Bryars in Perdido, Alabama. He passed away on January 31, 2026 surrounded by his family. He was a long-time resident of Mobile, Alabama. He is survived by his children, Barbara Middleton (Mike), David Bryars, Jr. (Shana), Lynne Tedder (Jeffrey), and Jason Bryars (Stephanie). Survived by one brother Royce Bryars (Ressie). He had 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Betty Bryars, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and his parents. David worked at International Paper Bag Mill at Brookley Field as an electrician for 43 years before retiring in 2001. He taught Sunday School for more than 20 years at Springhill Church of God. His hobbies included collecting tractors and farming. At the end of farming season, he harvested dried corn and made his own grits and cornmeal with a grits mill he has had for many years. David's hobby of farming blessed many families and friends over the years. His ability to grow vegetables and watermelons will be greatly missed by so many. The family decided to share with you today a memento of David's garden. Every year peas, corn and beans are left on the bush to dry for seeds for the next planting season. Please take an envelope from our dad's seed collection. Just as he sowed seeds in soil for future growth, please remember to sow seeds of Faith, seeds of Hope but most of all seeds of Love.

Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at 12noon. The family will receive friends from 10:30am until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
