On January 9, 2025, Lt. Col. David N. Sprott USMC Retired, a long time Mobile resident, went home to be with the Lord. He was proceeded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Frances Tarlton Gray Sprott.
David was born on August 4, 1933 in Auburn, Indiana to Joseph and Virginia (Dilgard) Sprott. He enjoyed a very normal childhood with loving Parents, Grandparents, three brothers, one sister, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
He was a Marine Aviator for over twenty years. During the Vietnam war he flew over 480 combat missions receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and 24 Air Medals.
After graduation from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 1975, his family moved to Mobile where he flew business aircraft for 32 years. In 2008, he was honored by the FAA with the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award for over 50 years of accident-free flight.
David was a life member of the Marine Corps League and the Military Officers Association. He was a Mason for over 50 years and a Past Master of Loop Masonic Lodge in Mobile. He is survived by his two children (Jeffrey Sprott and Megan Davis), two grandchildren (William Sprott and Abigail Segrest), his two great-grand-children(Gabrielle Sprott and Bradley Sprott), his three brothers (Michael Sprott, Samuel Sprott, and James Sprott), his sister (Roberta Nelson), many nieces and nephews, and his sweetheart, Shirley Ariail.
Visitation will be held on January 18, 2025 at 11am with services to follow afterwards at 12pm at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home (6040 Three Notch Rd, Mobile, AL 36619).
