degree from the University of Alabama. After teaching school for several
years, she attended the University of Florida on a fellowship and obtained
her Masters of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in Spanish. Shortly
after receiving her Masters degree she moved from the classroom to the

County Public Schools. While in this role, Dot was recruited by Harcourt
Brace Publishing Company to work as an educational consultant in their
Southeast Division. In this position, she trained teachers throughout her
territory to use the Harcourt textbooks in their classrooms. She continued
working as a consultant for 19 years prior to retiring. After her retirement,
she was recruited to come back to the publishing company to support their
Far East Division. While working in this position, she enjoyed traveling to
Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Guam, Singapore and Hong
Kong before retiring for good to enjoy travel with her husband, Horace
Greeley Breland, Jr.
After being on the road for 20+ years, Dot began enjoying the other things
she loved. She loved playing bridge at the Mobile Bridge Center and
playing bingo at the local senior center. Dot and her husband enjoyed
frequent trips to the coastal casinos and Las Vegas. At home, Dot enjoyed
playing board and tile games with her family and friends. She was a
voracious reader and loved completing crossword puzzles, especially those
from the New York Times. Of all the things Dot loved, her greatest joy was
spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
