Our sweet Mimi, Eloise Butler Noble, passed away March 21, 2023 at the age of 95. She went to join the love of her life, Aubrey Hutchison Noble (Paw), her husband of 58 years. Mimi was born in 1928 to Thomas Alton and Flora Cobb Butler and grew up in Barnett Crossroads, Alabama with her sister Bobbie Butler Evans. Later she had another sister, Joanne, and a brother, Frank. Mimi’s fondest memories centered around family – making a home and raising her two sons, Ed and Mark.
Mimi had a quiet yet devout faith, one she would never impose on anyone. Where her family was concerned, she was outspoken, especially about behavior she deemed improper. In fact, if she deemed the action particularly aberrant, she had the amusing habit of illustrating how it would eventually lead to the offending party’s demise. We called these illustrations “Mimi-isms”. We would like to share a couple of the Mimi-isms in case you are in need of advice. “If you aren’t eating right, you are just digging your grave with your teeth!”; “You are getting older now so don’t lose too much weight, a layer of fat is God’s way of smoothing out wrinkles!” Occasionally, she was right.
Mimi was an avid reader, an excellent mathematician and a fantastic cook. From Pound cake to roast and gravy, you would be hard pressed to find any tastier food than the dishes Mimi put on her table. She was not particularly fond of fishing, but she spent a considerable amount of time on the river in a bass boat, because Aubrey loved fishing, and she loved Aubrey. She adored her grandsons, Matt, Seth and Gage and thought they could do no wrong. Mimi was extremely proud of her accomplishments.
Mimi is survived by her son, Ed Noble (Charlene), Mark’s wife, Linda Nobel; grandsons, Matt (Abby), Seth (Melissa) and Gage; great grands, Ellie and Spencer, on sister, Joanne Evans (Sidney), the Ketchum nieces who were like daughters to her, and a number of other relatives and friends. Mimi, you knew you were loved, she loved us and we loved her. We will miss our Mimi.
