Eudell Hudspeth – Born April 25, 1926 in Longview, Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. Died November 25, 2023 in his home of 50+ years in Mobile, Mobile County, Alabama at the age of 97. Married March 12, 1950, to the love of his life, Eva Jane McClellan Hudspeth having celebrated 71 years of wedded bliss at the time of her death, June 09, 2021. He is preceded by his parents George Wesley Hudspeth and Mittie Bura Bradford Hudspeth; wife Eva; siblings Walter Allen Hudspeth, Sr., Eva Alyne Hudspeth Leverette Nelson, Sybil Maudine Hudspeth Cockrell and Barney Heress Hudspeth. He is survived by two daughters, Beverly Jean Hudspeth (wife of Rudolph Delgado, Jr.) of Plano, Texas and Barbara Kaye Hudspeth (wife of Donald Lane Peterson) of Semmes, Alabama; his grandchildren, John Michael Peterson (husband of Mitzi Payne), Derek Lane Peterson, Andrea Lindsey Peterson Slade (wife of Jason Eugene Slade), Stewart Preston Slater (husband of Rebekah Gail Blair) all of Mobile, Alabama; his great-grandchildren, Andon Lane Peterson, Caroline Grace Peterson, Ansley Madden Slade, Bryan Eugene Slade, Preston Hudspeth Slater, Anakin Preston Slater, Benjamin Kenobi Slater, Baby Slater due in April.
Eudell graduated from Longview High School in May, 1944 enlisting for WWII in the United States Army in August, 1944. Receiving Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon with 2 Bronze stars-Victory Ribbon, Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze stars-Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal, GO 114 Hq 1st Cav Div 26 June 45-Army Occupation Ribbon (Japan) 3 Overseas Service Bars, Lapel Button Issued, ASR Score (2 Sep 45) – 36 and Honorable Discharge in October, 1946. Returned to the states and attended Mississippi State University until reenlisting for the Korean Conflict in January, 1951 as Sergeant First Class Eudell Hudspeth, 932nd Field Artillery Battalion, 31st Infantry Division receiving an Honorable Discharge in May, 1952. Enlisted for an additional 3 years posted around the US with the National Guard and receiving another Honorable Discharge in May, 1955.
He was a devout Christian, very active at the Prichard/Parkview Church of God and transferring to the Forest Hill Church of God serving in many capacities, choir director, head usher, Sunday School teacher/Superintendent anywhere he could contribute. His greatest accomplishment was leading his older brother to the Lord. He played the guitar and took his two daughters to many TB Hospitals and elder-care homes playing and singing bringing happiness to the residents lives. He was employed by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company as a mechanic in the refrigeration department and then as a salesman in the Sales/Delivery retiring in 1985 after 35 years. He loved his family and spending time with them was of the utmost importance. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing (pulling his own bag) and cheering on the Bulldogs of Mississippi State, the Braves of Atlanta and the Saints of New Orleans. His hobby of woodworking, inherited from his father, brought joy to many friends as well as family. He played endless games of Dominoes with his wife and church friends.
