Eva Catherine Barter Haustein, a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL, and a devoted and loving wife, sister, aunt, and friend, made her transition from life to eternity on November 30, 2025, surrounded by family members. Eva was born on February 13, 1934, to the late Charles and Annie Streb Barter, and graduated from Bishop Toolen Catholic High School in 1952. After working a short period of time with the phone company, Eva enjoyed a twenty-five year career with the Mobile Police Department as a Clerk Typist II, retiring in 1984. Eva married the love of her life, Carl W. Haustein, Jr., in 1965, having met at Arthur Murray’s Dance Studio, and they spent twenty-nine wonderful years together, before Carl’s passing on November 2, 1994. They enjoyed attending Mardi Gras balls, ballroom dancing, and spending time with family and friends. Eva loved her many nieces and nephews, and there was a bottomless bowl of popcorn every time they visited her. Eva loved anything chocolate, ice cream, gumbo, and made the best divinity anyone ever had. After Carl passed, Eva volunteered her time at Little Sisters of the Poor, and was a member of the Ladies Sodality at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Eva was preceded in death by her parents; Charles and Annie Streb Barter, her twin sister; Columba Frances “Buzzie” Barter, brother; Charles James Barter, Jr., half-brother; Ed (Audrey) Allenbach, and half-sister; Marguerite (Don) Miller. Eva is survived by her sister; Ann (Paul) Barter Rasp, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
