Gary Fred Lankford, 80, was born September 14, 1941, in Mount Airy, North Carolina, to the late Fred and Mary Johnson Lankford and was called to his Heavenly home on October 22, 2021, in Mobile, Alabama. Gary served his grateful nation through enlisting in the United States Marine Corp., reaching the rank of Sergeant. He served many dedicated years with the Virginia State Police Department as a State Trooper and NYCO Security as Vice President of the Mobile office. Gary was a faithful member of the Redemption Church in Saraland, Alabama. He was a member of the Men’s Bible Study and the Colan Davis Sunday School Class. Gary always enjoyed worshiping his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ along with the fellowship of his Redemption family. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Alabama football fan. Gary loved listening to Christian Gospel music. He cherished the moments spent with family and friends. Gary loved his wife Kay and called her his “Baby Cakes”. He enjoyed being from Andy Griffith’s home town and took pride in knowing every line from every episode. Gary will be remembered for his kind spirit and great sense of humor.
Left to cherish Gary’s wonderful memories are his beloved wife of twenty years, Kay Mothershed Lankford, one son, Bret (Bridgette) Lankford, five daughters: Angie Logan, Jennifer (Patrick) Stacey, Mary (Kevin) Kallhoff, Kristy (John) Domnanovich, Kimberly (Greg) Thompson, two brothers: Buck (Carolyn) Lankford, John (Sandy) Lankford, one sister, Jane (Jaque) Horning, twelve grandchildren: Caleb Lankford, Caitlin Lankford, Rebecca (Destin) Harris, Jed Logan, Pearl Logan, Bryce Stacey, Payton Stacey, Casey Kallhoff, Gabe Kallhoff, Jules Domnanovich, Grant Thompson, Reed Thompson, two great-grandchildren: Adleigh Harris, Hudson Lankford, along with extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Honoring Gary as pallbearers will be Bret Lankford, Caleb Lankford, Bryce Stacey, Patrick Stacey, Casey Kallhoff, Gabe Kallhoff, and Jed Logan.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to their Redemption Church family, and the staff of SAAD’s Hospice, family and friends for the prayers, condolences, kinships, professional care, and compassion provided during such a difficult time.

Services honoring Gary will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 26, 2021, in the chapel of Radney Funeral Home, 1200 Industrial Parkway, Saraland, Alabama, 36571 with Bro. Billy Graham officiating. Interment will immediately follow on the grounds of Mobile Memorial Garden, Mobile, Alabama. The family will be accepting guests for visitation Tuesday, October 26, 2021, from 9:00 AM until time of service at 10:00 AM at Radney’s.
