George Herbert Grant, Sr., a native of Bentonia, MS and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at the age of 92. He was is proceeded in death by his parents, Walter and Margaret Ammons Grant; his first wife, Patricia Grant; brother, Walter Grant, Jr., and sisters, Marietta Johnson and Jimalee Smith. His survivors include a very loving and caring wife, Rose Morie Grant; 2 sons, George Herbert Grant, Jr. (Sue), Phillip Grant (Brandalyn); daughter, Marsha Grant Barnett (David) and step-daughter, Michelle Young, her son and 3 great-grandsons; three granddaughters, 5 grandsons and 1 great-grandson, other relatives and friends. Mr. Grant was one of "Our Greatest Generation" having proudly served in World War II and the Korean War. He was also in the US Navy Reserves serving on active duty in the Persian Gulf. He was honorably discharged on December 11, 1961 as a Chief Petty Officer. Mr. Grant owned and operated two successful business in Bayou La Batre, AL. Southeastern Electronics and Inland Offshore Supply. He was affectionately known around South Mobile County as "Uncle George". He always had a smile on his face, a hand out to shake and a stock tip if you wanted. He was loved and will be missed by many. A graveside service will be held Monday, April 13, 2020 in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, private family services are being held.
