George M. Witherington Sr, of Mobile Alabama, died peacefully on Sunday, February 6th, 2022, of natural causes with his loving wife, Geraldine (Lowe) Witherington, of 54 years by his bedside. He was 92 years old. George was born on February 28, 1929, in Bay Minette, Alabama, and was 1 of 9 children of the late James Maddison Witherington and Clyde T. (Wiggins) Witherington. He was proceeded in death by his siblings, William Witherington, Catherine Gautney, James Witherington, Arthur Witherington, and Harold Witherington as well as two of his six children, Brenda Rouse and Tammy Roberts. He is survived by his remaining siblings; Ed Witherington, Charles Witherington and Dorothy Chandler. In 1947, George was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served just under 2 years before trying his hand at the Merchant Marines. Soon after leaving the Merchant Marines in the early 1950's, George found his career passion. For almost 70 years, George was a life insurance agent employed by Interstate Life, Gulf Life, American General and United Health Care. He excelled and was a consistent leader and producer within the company. He was the recipient of many awards and commendations each and every year without fail. His house is filled with awards and recognition plaques. Never missing a day of work except for extreme sickness where he was hospitalized, George could always be counted on by his bosses. He took great pride in knowing that his dedication helped thousands of people enjoy the peace of mind that came from his work and his work ethic. George was a 46-year member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Mobile Alabama where he regularly attended both Sunday School classes as well as Church services every week. George was also a 46-year member of the Freemasons and Scottish-Rite bodies where he was a 32nd degree Master Mason and attended Lodge at Mobile #140. George is survived by his beloved wife, Geraldine Witherington; his daughters Sandra Seals and her husband Wayne; Tina Childress and her husband William; Melody Hopf and her husband Norman; as well as his son George Witherington Jr and his wife Karen. George is further survived by his 16 grandchildren, who are as follows: Roy Havard, Chad Seals, Brittany Seals, Lee Roberts, Matthew Roberts, Josh Childress, Jacob Childress, Kristy Vest, Phillip Vest, Blake Vest, Lauren Boshel, George Sullivan, Ryder Witherington, Rydge Witherington, Ryver Witherington, and Raynger Witherington. He is also survived by his 11 great grandchildren, who are as follows: Britton Havard, Blane Havard, Noel Seals, Emily Seals, Marlee Bryant, Brayleigh Bryant, Nash Roberts, Finley Roberts, Maddox Roberts, Violet Childress, and Wyatt Johnson. Many lives were created, and many lives were changed because he once lived. His legacy will now be carried through these many eyes that he created which will continue to multiply and continue the legacy that he began so many years ago.

Friends and family will be received for visitation at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home located at 6040 Three Notch Rd. Mobile Alabama on Thursday, February 10th, from 5 to 7 pm. An open Masonic ceremony will be conducted by Mobile Lodge #140 during the visitation where all who would like to attend and observe are welcome. Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 11th, 2022, at 12 pm, at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with a graveside service adjacent to the funeral home soon after. The American Legion Post 250 will be conducting the Veterans Service and Flag Presentation on Friday February 11th, 2021
