Gerald Douglas Cox, Sr. passed away on September 29, 2021, at the age of 86. Born in Bayou La Batre and a native of Mobile. He was preceded by his wife Regina Fath Cox, daughters Lynn Rawlins and Nancy Brunson, grandson Cory Jennings, brothers Robert Cox (Catherine), Ronald Cox, David Cox and Kenneth Frenette, sister Cheryl Craft, brothers-in-law Percy Bohannon and Raymond Kolb, sisters-in-law Patricia Kolb and Ginny Cox. He leaves a lifetime of precious memories to be cherished by his sisters MaryJo Bohannon, Carolyn Nettles (Robert), brothers Harold Cox (June), Carl Cox, Harmon Cox Jr (Linda), brother-in-law John Craft, children Gerald Cox, Jr (Rachelle), Judy Bryant (James), sons-in-law David Brunson and Frank Rawlins, grandchildren Zachary Cox, Melanie Schulz (Wagner), Brian, Jeffrey, and Jonathan Crabtree (Katie), Kaylee Rawlins, Jamie Price (Mark), Charlie Easterling, Bridgett Stacks (Lee), Emily Brunson Preciado, Marcus Brunson (Jaclyn), Great grandchildren, Ethan Schulz; Ky’len Jackson, Avalynn Crabtree and Kasyn Daniels (due in November), Breanna, Hunter, Damien, Rocky, Marianna, Karma and Kyle Price, Parker and Agnes Stacks, Audrey Brunson Preciado, Macey Hewes; cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends, especially Dianne Baker. Gerald was a graduate of Murphy High School c/o 1955, where he was a member of the football and track and field teams and also went played semi-pro football. He served in the Army and National Guard and was a retired local truckdriver from Johnson Motor Lines and AAA Cooper Transportation. He spent many of days fishing off the piers at Dauphin Island and Gulf Shores, Alabama but his very favorite hobby was bowling. Over the years he bowled on many bowling leagues and received many awards. Never one to brag about his awards or accomplishments it was always surprising to meet someone from his past and learn yet of another award or accomplishment. A wonderful loving father and grandfather “Paw Paw” with a heart of gold who will be truly missed.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Ascension Funeral Home, 1016 Hillcrest Road, Mobile, Alabama 36695. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday from the chapel of Ascension Funeral Home with Mr. Robert Overmeyer officiating. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery
