Ray was born in St Louis, Missouri November 22,1942, and moved to Mobile, Alabama in 1957. He passed away Monday, December 11th.
He was a member of Murphy High School State Championship Track and Cross Country. Ray also was a member of numerous clubs and the Phi Kappa fraternity during his years at Murphy.
In 1964 Ray started his career with Eastern Airlines in Mobile. In 1972 he was promoted to a supervisor position in Charlotte, North Carolina. While there he attended the University of North
Carolina at Charlotte studying Business Management. From there he was promoted into management positions of increasing responsibilities in Boston, Massachusetts in 1976 and Miami, Florida in 1979. In 1984 he was promoted to and returned home as the Eastern Airlines Manager in Mobile, Alabama.
When Eastern Airlines folded in 1991, Ray became employed with Circuit Stores Inc. as the Operations Manager. Ray retired from Circuit City in 2009.
During his retirement years he enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter Savannah and twin grandsons Jack and Josh. He was blessed with three wonderful children and the love of his life, Joanne. He was an avid fan and supporter of Auburn University football.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Rayfield, stepfather, James Thompson, and sister Sandy Bell.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Joanne, three children Guy Thompson Jr. (Darlene) of Mobile, Marc Thompson (Crystal) of Mobile, and Lesley (Jason) Foley of Ohio. He is also survived by his beloved Mother Millie Thompson, one brother Larry (Docia) Thompson, Three sisters, Rita Thompson, Donna Rayfield, Denise Henderson, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends from 1Pm to 2Pm on Tuesday, December 19th at Mobile, Memorial gardens. The service and interment will follow visitation at 2Pm.
