Gwendolyn Coan Carey, born January 9, 1925 in Mobile, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. She is preceded in death by her husband, John W. Carey, parents, Sidney Walter Coan and Jessie Williams Douglas Coan Harkins, daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Carey and Michael McDonald and brother, Sidney Walter Coan, Jr. Gwendolyn was a graduate of Murphy High School, Class of 1942. She was an active member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church having served as Clerk to the Clergy, Service Warden and Vestry Representative, Alter Guild Directress, Flower Guild Chairperson, secretary to Episcopal Women Supper Clubs, the Needlepoint Guild, member and past officer of Chapter C, PEO International Organization and officer in the Crestview Community Action Group. She also enjoyed membership in several Mardi Gras Mystic Societies. Mrs. Carey is survived by her grandsons Michael D. McDonald (Jessica), John M. McDonald (Rachel) and grandchildren; Spencer James McDonald, Lillian Carey McDonald and Holden Douglass McDonald. She is also survived by her niece and nephews, John Coan, Diane Odom and Sidney Coan.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church Chapel from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Celebration Mass with Eucharist will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Church. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
