Herbert Brooks Neal, went to be with his LORD and SAVIOR on Saturday, June 10, 2023. He was born in Lawrence County, Mississippi on St. Patrick’s Day in 1936- the seventh of nine children of Walter M. and Laura Hill Neal. He cherished his large family and rural upbringing. Mr. Neal was a veteran of the United States Army. Following his duty in the Army he moved to Mobile, AL and began his career with the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1996 after many routes and hours on the job. He was a hard worker, seldom if ever turning down overtime or missing work. To his children’s dismay and surprise, he received numerous awards for safe driving. He played softball late into his life and was proud of his fastball pitch. He enjoyed his days as an athlete. He enjoyed- collegiate sports and was required to cheer for Mississippi State, Auburn, Alabama, and The University of South Alabama. He was often found in the dirt, planting vegetables which he loved to share or putting out flowers in the yard. He was a longtime member of Spring Hill Baptist Church. His beloved wife of sixty four years, Mary preceded him in death by three months. He was also preceded in death by his son, Robert Bruce Neal. Mr. Neal is survived by his children, Randy (Mary), LaRone (Carroll), Alan (Sharon) and five grandchildren, Allen Blow, Bryan (Kaitlyn) Blow, Justin, Connor and Haley Neal. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Sue) Neal, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 11am in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

  1. I will always miss Brooks and Mary. He was a part of my life from childhood and I loved them both dearly Their lives, faith, and marriage were an inspiration...the most devoted couple I've ever known. There is a happy reunion in heaven. My mother so loved her brothers.
