He was an orphan that was adopted by the two most wonderful parents anyone could ask for, Frank Cammack Deming I and Gloria Herndon Deming. They were given a note stating they could pick up a little boy in Birmingham and they loved his temperament so much they just had to have him, but in true Herndon Deming fashion he cried the full 4-hour drive from Birmingham to Mobile. This was just the start of him wanting to be the center of attention. Herndon had a smile that could light up a room. His energy was so infectious that even if you were having a bad day you would light up. You could recognize Herndon in a crowded room just by the tone of his distinct laughter. His love for all things Mardi Gras, Alabama Football, and fried chicken were legendary. Everyone has a story to tell about Herndon because he left his mark on every single person he met. As Herndon would say, “It took me a while, but I am finally over my shyness.” Shy would be the last word you would use to describe this light on the earth. Herndon never met a stranger and always made you feel welcome in any situation.
Another remarkable trait about Herndon is his unconditional love for his family. He was a single dad of two children at the age of 38 years old and Herndon pulled his village together to give his two children, Frank Cammack Deming II and Brittany Logan Deming, the best life he could. Although Brittany was the more hardheaded of the two, Herndon never gave up on her and helped her all he could until her untimely passing. Herndon never had to worry about Frank. He gave him his blessing to do whatever he wanted to do and to follow his passions. While Herndon’s heart was so big and yet so fragile he always had a spot for the animals in his life. His latest rescue being his 5-year-old chocolate lab Sampson that he has had since he was a puppy.
He is preceded in death by his loving father and mother Frank Cammack Deming I and Gloria Herndon Deming, his first wife Brenda Logan Deming and his daughter Brittany Logan Deming. He is survived by his son Frank Cammack Deming II, his “Sister-Cousin” Libby Herndon Walker (Tommy), and his canine life companion Sampson. A Celebration of Life will be held March 7th at Radney Funeral Home 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL. Visitation from 12pm-2pm and Service in the Chapel at 2pm followed by a graveside memorial at Mobile Memorial Gardens. Finally, Herndon always said “Honey chile, they are never going to put me in a nursing home. I am going to live long enough to be a problem to my children.” In the words of his only surviving heir Frank Cammack Deming II, “Mission Accomplished”
