Hershel L. Doss, a resident of Mobile, Al., passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s on Jan. 7, 2014, at Providence Hospital, at the age of 84. He was born on Oct. 18, 1929, in Waskom, Tx., and was preceded in death by his parents: Leonard and Blanche Doss; brothers: Leonard Doss, Earl Doss, and Burl Doss; sisters: Reba Danvers, Dorothy Robinson, and Wanda Farmer. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty K. Doss; children: Richard (Ann) Doss of Mobile, Kathy (Ellis) Beck of Mobile, and Greg (Donna) Doss of Ozark, Al.; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Other surviving family members include: brother Larry (Kathy) Doss; sisters: Carolyn Kerns, and Norma Jean (Vernon) Wilkerson, all of Texas, and a host of other family and friends. Hershel served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1948-1953. He worked for Shell Pipeline and two railroads for many years. He retired from Enron Pipeline Operations with over 26 years of service as a communications and electronics technician. He was a member of Woodridge Baptist Church. He was a lover of people and a servant to all. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Hershel’s memory to: Alzheimer’s Foundation of South, P.O. Box 9693, Mobile, Al., 36691. Funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 from the chapel of Dignity’s Three Notch Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
