Hugh S Johnston Ellis, 90, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on January 10, 2024. Hugh was born August 16, 1933 in Derring, Missouri and raised in Winfield, Alabama.
Mr. Ellis was a devoted Christian and member of Orchard Baptist Church for 50 years. He served as deacon and volunteered with the food pantry. He was passionate about helping at the Mission of Hope; preaching, providing meals, and mentoring for 18 years. Hugh was a gunners mate in the Korean War for the United States Navy from 1952-1956. He was a carpenter by trade and retired from the Mobile Housing Department. He also was a devoted Alabama football and Atlanta Braves fan. He was preceded in death by his wife Katherine Ellis, his parents, Horace and Farris Ellis; the brothers and one sister, Irwin Ellis, Egan Ellis, Hermis Ellis and Jurl Deal Herren.
Surviving are his three children, Bob Ellis (Kathy) of Mobile, Alabama, Swanee Terry (William) of Mobile, Alabama, and DeAnna Bell (Gary) of Big Point, Mississippi; nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
AUGUST 16, 1933 – JANUARY 10, 2024
Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home – Mobile on Monday, January 15, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service will be celebrated in the chapel of the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens, Mobile, Alabama.
