Mrs. Elena Jones Smith, 86, of Mobile AL passed from this life Sunday, August 23, 2020 in Mobile, AL. She was born on October 27, 1933 in State Line, MS, one of the eight children to Julius B. (Sallie Smith) Jones of Greene County, MS. She attended and graduated from State Line High School, State Line, MS. She loved playing on the High school Basketball Team.
Elena was married to her husband Fredrick M. Smith in 1953, happily sharing some 67 years together and three children. Elena was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and good Christian friend. She loved her family, her church family, and numerous friends. She always had a smile and hug for loved ones, friends, and new acquaintances. Elena truly enjoyed cooking, baking, and serving family and friends. Elena loved serving her Lord and taught Sunday school most of her adult life. She was a member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church, Mobile, AL. Elena also worked a home business with her husband and has resided in the Mobile area some 60 plus years.
Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her parents, Julius B. (Sallie Smith) Jones of State Line, MS, Son Frederick Myles Smith Jr. of Mobile, AL, Sisters Sallie Mellanee Jones, Octavia I. Jones (Johnny) Letchworth, Willie Mae Delphia Jones (Joseph) Boyles, Hattie Geneva Jones (James) Hough, and brother Julius Leo (Rachael) Jones, Odessa, Texas.
She is survived by her husband Frederick M. Smith Sr., Mobile, AL, daughter; Cindy A. Smith, son; Alan R. (Jennifer) Smith; one brother Robert H. (Virginia) Jones; six grandchildren: Michael L. Johnston, Kelsey (Wayne) Smith Hall, Leah E. Smith, Nathaniel S.(Sarah) Smith, by marriage Cole Deering and Ansley Deering, four great-grandchildren: Hunter Johnston, Jackson S. Smith, Charlotte Grace Smith, Wyatt W. Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dauphin Way Baptist Church, Mobile, AL in her memory.
