Ingrid Berge Carpenter, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, the 23rd of May, 2024. She was 77 years old. Ingrid is survived by her loving husband, Larry Preston Carpenter, of 52 years.
Ingrid was proceeded in death by her mother, Josepaul Berge, father, Erling Berge and cousin, Debbie Thompson, all of Mobile, Alabama. She is survived by her only son, Richard Erling Carpenter, Sr. (Amy) of Mobile. She was known as Nanny by her two grandsons, Richard "Reed" Erling Carpenter Jr. and Andrew Palmer Carpenter. Ingrid leaves behind her cousins Jay Ison (Jamie), Joy Ison Deupree, and George Thompson (Hilda) and many other close family members.
Ingrid was born in Mobile, Alabama in 1946. She attended Mary B. Austin and graduated from Julius T. Wright School for Girls in 1964. Ingrid attended Belhaven College before returning to Mobile and starting her career at Merchants National Bank. For 35 plus years, Ingrid worked in the banking industry. Her career started at Merchants National Bank, then First Alabama and ultimately, she retired from Regions Bank. She was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church.
The greatest joy of Ingrid's retirement years was spending time with her grandsons, Reed and Andrew. She regularly attended their sporting events and school activities. Through the years, Nanny would volunteer to watch the boys or family dogs prior to being asked or before an event was even planned so she could insure one on one times with her grandsons. Ingrid had a true love for reading and often enjoyed up to two books a week. She was such an avid reader that she exhausted her first two Kindles and purchased a third one. Ingrid was also a devout Alabama Crimson Tide football fan. She loved traveling to Baton Rouge to attend games with her best friend, Ginger Cailleteau, and often recounted her favorite game, the Alabama-Penn State Sugar Bowl Championship victory.
Ingrid volunteered for many years as a member of the Cobblestone neighborhood association. She also served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Phoenix VII condominium association.
The family would like to thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice and Ashland Place Health and Rehabilitation for their loving care of Ingrid over the last few months.
