He graduated from Semmes High School and attended Troy State University for a short time.   In his professional life, he worked out of the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) 505. During the Vietnam Conflict, he received the National Defense Service Medal. He served in Key West, Florida, and Gulfport, Mississippi.   He was an avid Auburn fan and enjoyed watching them play.   He was preceded in death by his parents, James Wallace Adkison, Sr., Mary Jean Adkison, and his sister, Carolyn Adkison Armstrong. Survivors include his daughter, Kristin Adkison Newell (Craig), and grandchildren Ava, Emma, Tripp, and Anna of Georgia. Brother Michael Adkison, sisters Kathryn Curry (Byron), Karen Wiley, and Melanie Adkison all of Mobile, Amy Jackura (Andrew) of Houston, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.   Pall bearers will be Byron Curry, Andrew Jackura, Nelson Curry, Paul Wiley, Butch Downey, and Gerald Clayton.   The family would like to express appreciation and gratitude to Gentiva Hospice and the staff at Hartland Assisted Living for their care and compassion during the final phase of his life. A special thank you goes to Gloria Lacy, a true family friend forever. Your dedication, compassion, and love were always obvious when caring for James. He had a beautiful smile, and you could always put that smile on his face.
