James Kenneth Ward, Sr. – a longtime resident of the Mobile and Baldwin County area, died Thursday, October 3, 2019 at the Sacred Heart Residence of the Little Sisters of the Poor. Mr. Ward was a graduate of C.F. Vigor High School where he excelled in baseball and football. He was the owner of Wards Army Navy Store at the Loop in Mobile for over 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilbert and Willie Mae Mars Ward; and one brother, Bobby C. Ward. He is survived by his spouse, Fara I. Ward; six children, Maria (Bobby) Gechijian, Fara Marie Ward, Elizabeth Hodges, James K. (Debbie) Ward, Jr., Theodore N. Ward, and Olivia W. (Matt) Garrett; one brother, Larry (Deborah) Ward; one sister, Charlotte Samala; eight grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 11, 2019 at the Sacred Heart Residence of the Little Sisters of the Poor. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Friday from the Sacred Heart Chapel of the Little Sisters of the Poor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1655 McGill Avenue, Mobile, Alabama 36604. Inurnment will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
A church service will be held at 11am on Friday, 10/11/2019 from Sacred Heart Residence of the Little Sisters of the Poor, followed by a committal service at the grave site.
