Janet was a devoted wife to Tim Wilkes, a loving mother to Olivia Shanks and Jeff Wilkes (Kim), and a treasured grandmother to Thomas, Maggie, Katie, Caroline, and Andrew, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. She is also lovingly remembered by her devoted sister, Patti Hicks; her brother, Dan Davis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Janet was first and foremost a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. She loved and served Him all her life and was deeply devoted to her church and church family. After faithfully serving her family as a homemaker for many years, she later served as Preschool and Children’s Director at Dauphin Way Baptist Church, where she lovingly ministered to countless children and families. She had a special gift for making children feel seen, loved, and welcomed, and she faithfully pointed young hearts toward Jesus with gentleness, joy, and compassion. Her home was a place of warmth, comfort, laughter, and love. Janet had a beautiful smile that could light up a room and a joyful laugh that will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She had a servant’s heart, always ready to encourage, help, and care for others in both big and small ways. Janet was incredibly talented and creative, with a special gift for calligraphy, drawing, and crafting. She found great joy in creating beautiful things by hand, and her creativity blessed family, friends, and countless others throughout her life. More than anything, Janet loved her family. She delighted in her grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. Her legacy of faith, kindness, love, and devotion will continue through the lives she touched so deeply. Though her family grieves her absence here, they rejoice knowing she is healed, whole, and forever in the arms of Jesus. Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live. Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to: First Baptist Tillman's Corner, Dauphin Way Baptist Church, or Alabama Baptist Children's Home.
