John Dominick - Mobile Memorial Gardens

John Dominick

1925-2020
John R. Dominick, known and loved by many as “Dado”, passed through the heavenly gates peacefully on the morning of August 25, 2020. He was a resident of Mobile, AL, and the Spring Hill community since 1946. John was born in Birmingham, AL on April 3, 1925, to Robert Marvin Dominick and Julia Elizabeth Hardin Dominick. John was drafted into the United States Navy in 1943 and proudly served his country during World War II at Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and the occupation of Japan. After his honorable service, John joined his parents in Mobile, AL where he began his legacy within the community. As a young man, he was an avid amateur pilot owning his own personal airplane. While volunteering for the Civil Air Patrol, John met the woman who would become his lifelong love and soul mate, Marian Elizabeth Lynch, “Honey”. They married in 1952 at Spring Hill College and were married for 62 years until her death in 2014. He had a true and undying love for his best friend and wife that now carries on eternally as they have been joyfully reunited. They were the proud parents of nine children all born and raised in the Spring Hill community. In 1954, they founded and opened their family business, J-Ray Shoes which is still serving the community after 66 years of operation. Dado and Honey were known and loved dearly by their customers, mostly for their desire and passion to serve the community through their business. Multiple generations of residents have been known to frequent the family-owned establishment due to the love and kindness he offered all who entered the shoe store. John was also involved in his community through Little League Baseball, coaching his sons, grandsons, and many others for over 25 years. He attended the University of Alabama and was a loyal, life-long fan of Crimson Tide athletics. Upon retirement, John and Marian became world travelers. They explored areas of the country and world together for the last 20 years, experiencing magnificent travels through one another’s eyes. Dado had a tremendous love for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, totaling over 50 immediate family members. John was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Marvin Dominick and Julia Elizabeth Hardin Dominick; his wife, Marian Elizabeth Dominick; his son, Nat Dominick; and his sister, Eleanor Dominick Brown. He is survived by his children; Jeb Dominick (Brenda), Beth Lamberson (John), Pat Dominick (Ann), Johnny Dominick (Georgia), Lynn Anderson (Stan), Chad Dominick (Elizabeth), Jay Dominick, and Leigh Kercher, as well as 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
