John "Jack" Richard Davis

IN THE CARE OF Radney Funeral Home - Mobile John “Jack” Richard Davis, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Mobile Infirmary in Mobile, Alabama. He was born on Friday, August 3, 1945, in Mobile, Alabama to the late George A. Davis, Jr. and Eunice Mae Finch Davis. Jack attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School, graduated in 1965 from Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School, and attended Huntington College. He graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of South Alabama. Jack was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Three months prior to graduation he was hired by the United States Customs Service which led President Nixon to sign his early graduation diploma. Upon becoming an agent Jack was selected for Who’s Who among American of Young Men nominated by the University of South Alabama. He retired in 2000 from United States Customs following the mandatory thirty years of dedicated service. Jack retired as a Senior Special Agent in Mobile, Alabama. He had the pleasure of serving as Resident Agent in charge in Beaumont, Texas, Special Agent in Dallas, Texas, and Special Agent in Charge in Mobile, Alabama. Jack truly loved his work and the many friendships forged throughout his professional career. Many looked up to Jack because he took great pride in following the letter of the Law. Jack served honorably in the Alabama National Guard from 1967 to 1972 where he achieved the rank of Private Second Class and was awarded the Sharpshooter Rifle Badge. He was a member of the American Legion Post 3, a member of the National Association of Federal Treasury Agents, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. For years, Jack coached his son's Little League Baseball teams at Westside Park. Jack’s greatest joy was the Tweety Davis Yacht Club at Mullet Point on Mobile Bay where he enjoyed boating, working on projects and spending time with family and friends on the wharf of the bay. Jack was a huge Teddy Bear with a firm but loving heart and would help anyone with anything. Jack loved spending time as the Hunt Master of Altmayer Hunting Club. Along with hunting he enjoyed the comradery amongst members. Jack was preceded in passing by his parents; one son, John “Rich” Richard Davis II; three brothers: infant, George Davis, George A. Davis III, and Michael J. Davis. Left to cherish Jack’s wonderful memories is his beloved wife of fifty plus years, Denese Hubbell Davis; one daughter, Kristen Davis; two grandchildren: Jackson Sutton Davis, and Elizabeth Brooke Davis; one sister-in-law, Barbara “Choo-Choo” Davis; one daughter-in-law, Jeannie Brooks Davis; special bonus children: Matthew (Mynde) Breed, and Yogi (Mary Ann) Davis; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many wonderful friends. Jack was a man of integrity who drew strength, great comfort, and joy living a purpose-filled life remaining faithful to his Catholic roots.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 4156 Burma Road, Mobile, Alabama 36693. Interment will immediately follow on the grounds of Mobile Memorial Garden, 6100 Three Notch Road, Mobile, Alabama 36619.
