John Leith Smith, 92, was born on August 5, 1928 in Montgomery, AL to the late Furman and Johnnie Smith. He was called to his heavenly home on July 23, 2021 in Mobile, AL to join with his wife, Mary G. Smith and his brothers and sisters; Forrest Smith, Lee Smith, Hoyt Smith, Calvin Smith, Mary Lou Griffin and Betty Christian. John served his nation in the Army Air Corp. He was a faithful member of Airport Blvd. Baptist Church. He loved to garden and could root any plant. He entertained people with his stories and never met a stranger. Left to cherish his memories will be his daughter Lana Dykes and her husband Daniel, grandchildren; John Dykes, Beth Edwards and her husband Patrick and great-grandchildren; Mia Edwards and Abby Edwards, along with nieces, nephews and many friends. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff and nurses of the north wing of Saads Hospice for their compassion and care. Visitation will be held at Airport Blvd. Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until service time of 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
