Mr. John William "Johnny" Ardis, Sr., age 83, a native of Mobile, AL, and a resident of Creola, AL., passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Clair Glenelle "Nell" Waltman Ardis, his parents John and Vivian Ardis, and his brother, James W. "Jimmy" Ardis. He is survived by two sons, John W. (Melody) Ardis, Jr., and Michael G. (Danya) Ardis., and one daughter, Debra A. (Mike) Weideman, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and was an accomplished mechanic, race car owner, and automobile racing enthusiast. He was inducted into the Alabama Auto Racing Pioneers Hall of Fame in 2011. Visitation will be held on July 29th from 9 am until 10 am with a private graveside service, immediately following at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 6040 Three Notch Rd., Mobile, AL, 36619. Flowers are welcome but in lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to either the Lewy Body Dementia Association, or the Alabama Auto Racing Pioneers. In remembrance of Johnny's love of racing, please feel free to wear a racing t-shirt and jeans, which was his favorite attire.
