Josephine passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 18, 2021. She was born in Sylacauga, AL. She got married and moved to Mobile in 1950. She worked as a dental assistant and hygienist for 30 years. Retired from dentistry in 1985 from Mobile County Health Dept. She was a certified optician and retired in 1994 from Phoenix Optical.
She was a charter member at Manor Baptist Church for 42 years, taught Sunday school for 40 years, sung in the choir and led the Jubilee Singers for 10 years. Also volunteered at RSVP for 10 years.
Preceded in death by husband Charles McArrell, daughter Debra (Joseph) Nelson, daughter Brenda Stacey, Mother Velvie Owens, brothers James Taft, Buel Taft and Bobby Owens, sister Vera Nell Pate, and grandson Dylan Tews. Survived by husband William Castle, daughters Sherry (Randall) Gurganus, Davona (Randy) Nelson, Kimberly Gordon, Ashley (Tom) Tews, Gregory (Ambre) Castle, sister Kathy (Gary) Hoffman, sister-in-law Gail Davis, nieces, nephews, 18 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
June 21, 1933 ~ December 18, 2021 (age 88)
A funeral service will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home (6040 Three Notch Road, Mobile, AL 36619) on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 12:00 noon with visitation starting at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
