oyce Levens Brown, born on January 27, 1930, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on October 21, 2024. A lifelong resident of Saraland, Alabama, Joyce lived a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and a deep dedication to her family and community.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Curtis Nathan Brown, and her parents, Addie Belle and James Thomas Levens. She is survived by her sons, Larry (the late Nita) Brown, Jerry (Bobby) Brown, and Ricky (the late Terri) Brown; her daughters, Beverly (James) Dixon, and Sharon (Jerry) Pilgrim. She also cherished her ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, who brought her great joy and were the center of her world.
A beloved matriarch, Joyce was known for her "aggressively helpful" nature and her joy in hosting large gatherings. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth and hospitality, where laughter echoed often, and friends and family always felt welcome. She took immense pride in her family, cherishing every moment spent with her loved ones.
Professionally, Joyce dedicated over 30 years of service to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where her work was highly valued until her retirement. Alongside her career, her faith played a central role in her life. Joyce was a lifelong member of Shadow Lawn Church in Saraland, Alabama, where she actively participated in her faith community.
Beyond her family and career, Joyce embraced life with a vibrant and adventurous spirit. She loved shopping, gardening, and traveling, all activities that allowed her to experience and share the beauty of the world with others. One of her greatest delights was transforming her house into a home by cooking large southern feasts for family gatherings. Those who knew Joyce will fondly remember her quick wit, her fiercely loving heart, and her "helpful" suggestions.
Funeral services will be held at Radney Funeral Home, 1200 Industrial Pkwy, Saraland, AL 36571, on Friday, October 25, 2024. The visitation will take place from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, followed by a service, also held at Radney, at 1:00 PM. The interment will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
Joyce’s life was a testament to her strength, love, and unwavering commitment to those she held dear. She will be deeply missed but will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
