Joyce Michelle “Shelly” Dowling Sawyer, a native of Fernandina Beach, FL and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the age of 54. She was a member of Woodridge Baptist Church and worked as a restaurant manager for Hardee’s and McDonald’s. She enjoyed collecting collectable dolls, walking down a beach and spending quality time with her family and friends. “Life is better when you’re laughing”. Michelle was always laughing and her laughter was contagious. She was preceded in death by her father, Marlon Basil Dowling. Her survivors include her husband of 14 years, Wayne Augustus Sawyer, Sr.; her mother, Mary Virginia Boles Dowling; her children, Jonathan Dowling, Tiffany Dowling (Douglas) Wright, Dale Payne, Marla Payne, Wayne Augustus (Amy) Sawyer, Jr., Christopher Sawyer and Stephanie Sawyer; two sisters, Virginia “Jennie” Dowling Rivers and Helen Dowling (Scott) Stroupe; six grandchildren, Gavin Davis, Julia Crawford, Jaxon Wright, Nyssa Dowling, Amberly Sawyer, Bella Joy Payne, Cidnie Brown and Averie Brown; niece, Crystal Nolen; nephews, Steven Stroupe, Joseph Stroupe, Allen Bradley Rivers and Dusty (Cindy) Rivers, her canine companion, Daisy; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 21, 2020 at 10:00 AM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday morning from 9:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

A chapel service will be held at 10am on Friday, 02/21/2020 from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at the grave site.
