Leigh Becht Ankerson Bailey - age 42; a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, AL died Friday, November 20, 2020 at a local health care facility surrounded by her family. Leigh was preceded in death by her grandparents, Laurence and Rosalie Ankerson. She is survived by her husband, Robert Wallace Bailey; two sons, Hayden Connor Bailey and Noah William Bailey; parents, Walter T. "Terry" and Mary "Mickie" Ankerson; one sister, Michelle A. (Greg) Priest; three nephews, Hunter Priest, Hudson Priest, and Michael Priest; aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives. Leigh was a 1996 graduate of McGill-Toolen Catholic High School where she was a member of the golf team for four years. During her time on the golf team, they were state champions for three years and all state for three years. She attended the University of South Alabama and graduated from the University of Mobile where she was a member of the ladies golf team and a NAIA All American. She also served as the ladies golf coach at the University of Mobile. She was employed as a physical education teacher with the Mobile County Public School System. Leigh was a 1992 member of the Mobile Carnival Association Juvenile Court and reigned as the Queen of the 75th Anniversary Ball of the Crewe of Columbus in 1996. The family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at the Murphy Center at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. from St. Dominic Catholic Church with Reverend Patrick Driscoll as celebrant. Pallbearers will be Hunter Priest, Hudson Priest, Michael Priest, Pakie Ankerson, Richard Ankerson, Tommy Ankerson, Pat Ankerson, and Les Strickland. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Child Advocacy Center, 1351 Springhill Avenue, Mobile, AL 36604.

A church service will be held at 11am on Tuesday from St. Dominicks Catholic Church, followed by a committal service at the grave site.
