1939-2020
Mary Agnes Strickland Callaghan, age 80, lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. Mary was born April 1, 1939 to Grace Wilson Strickland and John Thomas Strickland, Sr. Mary was a mother, homemaker, and caregiver for many. She retired from USA Children and Women’s Hospital. Mary was the first born of six children. Forever the homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, and teaching these skills to others. She spent much of her life happily raising her children and others’ as well as helping to care for several elderly neighbors and relatives. She was an active volunteer at St. Joan of Arc and Leinkauf Elementary Schools as well as Knollwood (Mobile Infirmary West) Hospital. She enjoyed traveling and spending time in Point Clear, AL with her family. Along with family, she managed Callaghan’s Plumbing Company and Callaghan’s Irish Social Club. After her children were grown, she was employed at Springhill Medical Center and later retired from USA Children and Women’s hospital. In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with grandchildren, family, and neighbors. She also kept busy by volunteering and creating gardens that would compare to Bellingrath at her home. Mary is survived by her five children; Trisha Callaghan (Steve) Owens, Woodrow B. (Karen) Callaghan, Jr., Willie (Maria Ann) Callaghan, Joe Callaghan, and Christy Callaghan (Dave) LeGros; sister and best friend, Faye Lyndall; grandchildren, Summer Owens, Stevie Owens, Ben (Isha) Callaghan, Brad Callaghan, Ashton (Chase) Robinson, Will Callaghan, Robert (Jessie) Wright, Jennifer Cisco, Elizabeth Ann (Stephen) Haskell, Joe (Tegan) Callaghan, Daltrey LeGros, Dylan LeGros; great-grandchildren; Caden Owens, Chatom and Guy Callaghan, Charlotte Robinson, Noah, Owen, Ella, Lily, Molly, and Avila Wright, and Daniel, Freyja, and baby Wright-Haskell; and a host of loved family and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow B. Callaghan, Sr., parents John T. and Grace Strickland, brother, Tommy Strickland, and granddaughter, Amanda Callaghan. A visitation for Mary will be held Monday, January 20, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 6040 Three Notch Road, Mobile, Alabama 36619. A funeral service at 12 p.m. followed by a graveside service with Monsignor Wall officiating.

A chapel service will be held at 12pm on Monday, 01/20/2020 from Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at the grave site.
