Mary Margaret (Peterson) Cochran - Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery

A church service for Mary Margaret (Peterson) Cochran will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, 12/22/2016 from Radney Dauphin Street Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at the grave site.

Mary Margaret Cochran, a native of Whistler and a longtime resident of Mobile, died on December 17th at the age of 97. After graduating from Murphy High School, she went on to Alabama College, a State College for Women (University of Montevallo). She returned to Mobile and started working at Brookley Air Force Base, as a supervisor in the personnel department there she met the love of her life who she was married to for 61 years. She worked there for several years until they started a family. After her second child was born, she retired to stay home. She had two more children after that. In her leisure time, she was on a bowling league for a couple of years. She and her husband learned to play golf which she played for many years. A year and half ago, her health caused her to retire from that sport. She enjoyed playing bridge with her husband and friends. She was a member of a mystic society for over 60 years serving on many committees as well as President, Leader and Emblem. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Martin Peterson and Helen Lewis Jones Peterson; her husband, Herbert Lee Cochran, Jr.; three brothers, Goodloe Peterson, Donald Peterson, and Joe Peterson; and a sister, Helen Lewis Roberts. She leaves 4 children, Herbert Lee Cochran, III (Nancy), Michael Douglas Cochran, (Mary), Samuel Martin Cochran (Sabrina) and Teresa Ann Cochran; two brothers, John ‘Jack” Peterson and Peter (Betty) Peterson; a sister, Jean Peterson Lott; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great grand-children. She was a life-long member of Trinity Episcopal Church and a member of St. Anne’s Guild. She was a very compassionate and loving person. Her faith was a guiding force in her life and interaction with people she met. She was a very out-going person and highly respected by everyone she met. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 21, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home, Mobile. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church. Interment will follow at Mobile memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or the American Cancer Society as she was a long time cancer survivor. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
