Matilda Ruth Richey

January 18,1930- February 11,2023 93 years old
Matilda (Tillie) R. Morgan Richey, age 93, left this earth peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, to be with our Father in Heaven on February 11, 2023. Matilda was born to Frank and Bertha Morgan on January 18, 1930 in Concordia, Kansas. She is survived by a beloved daughter, Ruth A. Richey Howard, a granddaughter, Kristin R. Howard Watts (Brandon), two great-grandsons, Braydin Watts and Kyson Watts, and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. Matilda was a devoted military wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She spent 26 and a half years supporting her husband through the Navy and Coast Guard which allowed her to become a member and supporter of the Officers’ Wives Club. Matilda was very involved in her daughter’s, granddaughter’s, and great-grandson’s sporting events. You could always count on her to be there cheering you on! She was always there to listen, understand, and give the best advice. She was a devoted church member at Christ United Methodist Church along with being a member of the Ester Circle. As a baby, Matilda’s parents found out she was allergic to milk, and was nursed back to health with peanut butter. She never drank milk again! At age 5, her and the family survived the Flood of 1935 in Concordia, Kansas while on their river farm. During her teenage years, she became a member if the 4-H Club, allowing her to show a prize-winning purple ribbon cow and winning a blue ribbon for a complete homemade sewn outfit. At the time, a life-long pen pal named Gretta entered her life. She went to college at “K” State and taught children in surrounding communities. After a few years, she changed careers to be part of the banking business. In her free time, she enjoyed a good phone conversation, clothes shopping – whether she bought something or not – eating out with family, ironing (clothes had to be pressed!), baking, tending to her gorgeous plants, and going on family vacations. She never met a stranger. By the time the chat was over, she had a new friend. One more thing, going to the beauty shop was a MUST every Wednesday!!! In Matilda’s elder years, she enjoyed time with family, naps and watching the news or Hallmark movies. She was sure to fuss about having to see the “My Pillow Guy” commercial too much! When asked where she wanted to go or where to eat – her famous saying was “Whatever is the easiest!” Matilda will be missed greatly by all her family and friends and remembered as a kind, sweet hearted, loving, and giving person. The legacy and memories she left will be talked and thought of for years to come.
