Mrs. Mattie R. “Nanny” Carmichael, daughter of the late Willie Timothy Carter and Ethel (Rhodes) Carter was born on December 21, 1931 in Jordan, Alabama. She attended the public schools of Washington County and graduated from Koenton High School. Mattie made a career of caring for people and retired in the year 2014 after a lifetime of loving service. Mattie was the wife of the late John Aaron Carmichael and their union was blessed with one child Apostle Ralph Charles Carmichael, Sr. The Carmichaels made their home in Mobile, Alabama. Mattie Carmichael was of the Christian faith as well as a Mother in the church at Keys to Successful Living Ministries located in Mobile, Alabama. She was skilled at sewing and loved embroidery. Her hobbies included baking and cooking; she also liked to watch Matlock, Golden Girls and old country westerns on television. Mattie loved to raise kittens and grow flowers; pink roses were her favorite. Her many God-given talents were a tremendous blessing to her family and friends. At the blessed age of 88 Mattie Carmichael went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 22, 2020 at the Lynwood Nursing Home in Mobile, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband John Aaron Carmichael, two brothers W.C. Carter and Odell Carter and two sisters Martha Hill and Myrtle Turner (Preston Turner – deceased), and one great-grandson Otis Fralin. She is survived by her beloved son and his wife, Ralph and Angelitta Carmichael, three granddaughters: Shiquitha Boykin, Erin (Bobby) Rembert, and Courtney Carmichael, one grandson Ralph Charles Carmichael, II., great-grandchildren: Marvin Peters, Jasmine Peters, Joshua Peters, Melissa Demetrii Perry, Kaeylan Perry, Michael Fralin, Daniel Rembert and Ava Rembert as well as a host of great, great, grandchildren, four sisters: Willie Mae (Oscar - deceased) Johnson, Ethel Mae (Silas - deceased) Washington, Clara (Eddie - deceased) Barnes, Gladys (Arthella) Daniels; four brothers: Lloyd Carter, James (Kathryn) Carter, Roy Lee (DeLois) Carter, Samuel Carter and a host of family and friends. Friends and family are invited to attend Mattie’s Farewell services on Saturday, May 30, 2020 from 9:00am until the 11:00am funeral hour at Keys to Successful Living, Inc., 411 S. Broad St., Mobile, Al. 36603. The eulogy will be officiated by Pastor Angelitta Carmichael. Entombment services will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Mattie will be laid to rest in the Chapel of Grace Mausoleum in Unit 3. The Carter-Carmichael families would like to thank Small’s Mortuary, Keys to Successful Living Ministries and Mobile Memorial Gardens for their thoughtfulness and professionalism. A church service will be held at 11am on Saturday, 05/30/2020 from Keys to Successful Living, Inc., followed by a committal service at the grave site.
