Maxine Mitchell, 89, a native of Mobile Alabama and a current resident of Seven Lakes, NC, passed away on February 28, 2024. Maxine attended Murphy High School and graduated with the class of 1951. She married William Anderson Mitchell, who was then a young recruit in the US Army and moved with him to various assignments that included 9 years in Mainz and Heidelberg Germany. In 1969, Maxine began working for the Department of Defense serving 35 years in North Carolina, Washington DC, Panama, Kaiserslautern Germany and Ft. Monroe Virginia. She retired from the DOD in 2003 and lived in Greensboro, NC for a short time before relocating to Seven Lakes, NC. Maxine was preceded in death by her mother, Lovella Smith Wilson Hopkins; her father, Cauley Wilson; her stepfather Glen Hopkins; sisters Lenis Rodgers and Shelby Lathan; and son William Bart Mitchell. She is survived by one sister Pearl Phillips; 2 children Randell Mitchell (Vicki) of Greensboro, NC and Alexis Mitchell of West End, NC; two grandsons Jason and Scott Mitchell; granddaughter Katherine Mitchell and Great-granddaughter, Arilyn Mitchell. Funeral services are provided by Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines, NC. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens, Mobile Alabama.
