Melvin Garrett Smith – age 44, born in Dothan, Alabama on January 10, 1980, and a longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama, peacefully departed this earth at his home in Lucedale, Mississippi on Thursday, May 23, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Smith spent 25 years in the medical field in many roles and most recently, as a surgical sales representative with Smith+Nephew Orthopaedics. He was a graduate of Murphy High School and was a 2003 graduate of the University of Alabama where he was also a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Mr. Smith was an avid hunter and fisherman, sports enthusiast, and a loyal all-things Alabama football fanatic… Roll Tide!
As much as Mr. Smith was loyal to The Tide, his loyalty to his family and loved ones will forever go unrivaled. As many of Mr. Smith’s closest friends recently stated when remembering him, Garrett was fiercely loyal, smart, funny, the kindest, and above all, he always “showed up” for those he loved rain, snow, sleet, or shine… especially when it came to his job as a big brother. This world will certainly shine a little less bright in his absence.
Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his father, Melvin R. Smith, Jr. and is survived by his beloved wife, Kristia Dunnam Smith; daughter, Avonlea Jo Smith; and sons, Witt Raines and Kyler Raines. He is also survived by his mother, Terry Davis Smith; sister, Courtney Lane Everette (Travis), niece, Abigail Lane Everette; nephew, Asher Davis Everette; special uncle, Craig F. Smith; and many many beloved relatives and longtime dear friends.
