Merlin Floyd “Lucky” Lutz, Jr., a native of Ocean Springs, MS and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at the age of 87. Lucky was retired from Western Union and the Mobile County Public School System. He was a longtime volunteer with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Flotilla and the American Red Cross. He was a member of Luke 4:18 Fellowship and former member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church and Dauphin Way Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Peggy June “Peanut” Lutz, his parents Merlin F Lutz, Sr. and Hazel Marie Lutz, and sister-in-law Thelma Lutz. He is survived by his two daughters Karen Lutz Davis and Ann Lutz (Jerry) Cassity. His grandchildren Angie Shaw (William) McKean, Lisa Shaw (Chris) Bergeron, Scott Davis and Joe (Sonia) Shaw; his brother Robert S. Lutz, Sr.; four Great Grandchildren and two Great-Great Grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relative and friends. Funeral services, officiated by Rev. Robert S. “Bob” Lutz, Sr. and Rev. Robert S. Lutz, Jr. will be held Saturday, August 1, 2020, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 1:00 PM until service time. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
