Michael J. Oehmann, 68, of Williamsburg, VA, died peacefully on August 17, 2022 at WaterView Health and Rehab Center in Hampton following a lengthy illness. Born in Bethesda, MD on July 17, 1954, he grew up in the Washington, DC area, graduating from Georgetown Preparatory School, Holy Cross College and Wesleyan University. Mike was a valued member of the faculty at The Maret School in Washington, DC, Hampton Roads Academy in Newport News and Walsingham Academy in Williamsburg where he taught English literature. He also led drama activities and produced numerous plays and dramatic readings by students. Mike also coached baseball and wrestling. Mike was afflicted with a bi-polar disorder that required periodic hospitalizations which led him in later years to provide support to persons who experienced serious setbacks as a result of similar situations. He provided the services of a support mentor in several local hospitals which provided significant assistance to the medical staffs that did not have the experience Mike had and allowed him to gain the confidence of the persons he supported. He is survived by his former wife, Virginia Barch, who provided invaluable assistance during his long illness; two sons Andrew and Matthew; sisters Mary Ann and Debbie; and a brother Andrew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 2150 Cunningham Dr, Hampton, VA at 11am on Thursday, September 29, 2022.The celebrant will be Mike’s good friend and spiritual advisor Fr. Peter Creed.
