Mildred Elizabeth Corcoran May 1, 1923 - September 4, 2022 Another member of the greatest generation has passed away after a long and full life. The family of Mildred Elizabeth Corcoran announces her death at the age of 99. Mildred was born in Arkansas and moved to Mobile as a teenager. Growing up during the Great Depression and coming of age during World War ll provided her a background that allowed her to take nothing for granted and be thankful for everything. It was during World War ll, while serving as a civil defense volunteer she met her future husband, Ed. At the time of Ed's passing in 2009, they had been married for 64 years. Mildred was a convert to the Catholic faith and her faith and her sense of humor allowed her to move through all phases of her life with a quiet confidence. For the past 10 years she has resided at Brennity Place in Daphne. Despite her advancing age she was blessed with a keen mind and a great memory. Always up for challenge at the age of 90 she began using an I Pad, taking advantage of email communication and quickly grasped the use of a Kindle to satisfy her reading appetite. Her only hurdle was occasionally forgetting to power up her devices. Mildred would tell you the secret to moving into "old age" was two things. First, you better keep moving and second you better have a sense of humor. An example of 'keep moving' was when she was 94 she fell and broke her shoulder. One of her children went to visit her the next day after the accident only to find her walking around her apartment. When confronted with "what the heck are you doing" she was quick to point out that if she just sat in a chair she would not get up.you keep moving. She loved a joke and was quick to laugh at you, herself, any situation. One of her favorites was when a telemarketer would call she would begin singing "You are my sunshine"until they hung up. A true character. When she and her sister from Colorado, Sandra, would visit it was a laugh-a-thon. At Brennity she enjoyed her role as Mardi Gras Queen. The Brennity Olympics brought her a lot of joy and she certainly enjoyed displaying her numerous medals achieved though the various competitions. Mildred's family would like to thank the management and staff of Brennity for the great care and nurturing environment they provided. They would also like to thank "Team Millie": April Henry, Jackie White, Lula, Durgin, Tara Durgin, and Traci Morriesette, a group of outstanding caregivers who provided companionship, care, and love for the last years of her life. Mildred is survived by her five children: Maria (Charles) Williams, Tom (Barbara) Corcoran, Diane (Bob) Hyman, Kathy (Dick) Moody and John Corcoran, her sister Sandra Sanders, along with 8 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. There will be a private Funeral Mass at Christ the King Church in Daphne on Friday, September 9, followed by interment at Memorial Gardens in Mobile. Arrangements are by Ascension Funeral Home, 1016 Hillcrest Road, Mobile, Alabama 36695.
