Our loving and beautiful mother, Ruth Virginia Cox, passed away on July 24, 2022, at her daughter's home in Seymour, Tennessee surrounded by her family.
Ruth was born July 26, 1929 in Pickens County, Alabama, and graduated from York High School at the age of 16. Ruth attended nursing school in Meridian, Mississippi, and performed her internship in New Orleans, Louisiana. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1949.
Ruth met her husband James Theron (Pete) Cox at the University of Alabama where he was attending school and Ruth was working at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa. They married in Mississippi in January 1950, and subsequently moved to Anniston, Alabama where they raised their five children. Later, they moved to Mobile, Alabama in 1981.
Ruth worked as an RN at the Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center for many years. Years later in Mobile she worked at Providence Home Health until her retirement in 1994.
After her retirement she spent time with her family and traveled to many different places within the United States as well as Europe. She was also active in her church and traveled with the church senior choir (The Amazing Grays) for years.
Ruth was a loving and caring wife, mother, and daughter. She loved life and lived her life to the fullest. Ruth was very inspirational and thought good of everyone. Ruth loved God and His son Jesus Christ dearly and spent time in prayer and reading the Bible daily. She attended Cottage Hill Baptist Church and later Tillmans Corner Baptist Church.
Ruth was a big fan of Alabama Crimson Tide football and the Atlanta Braves.
Ruth is preceded by her husband of 44 years, James Theron (Pete) Cox; her granddaughter, Jeremy Ruth Cox; and her parents, Barney Burns Pate, and Mary Elizabeth (Pate) Black.
Left to cherish her memories are her 5 children: James Theron Cox, Jr. of Tallahassee, Florida; Barney Walter Cox (and wife Dixie Hill) of Tallahassee, Florida; Virginia Lynn (Cox) Sanderson (and husband Kenny) of Gautier, Mississippi; Charles Allen Cox of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Susan Marie (Cox) Culbreth (and husband Billy) of Seymour, Tennessee. In addition to her five children , Ruth has 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens in Theodore Alabama at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 1, 2022.
