Newton Butts, a veteran of World War 2 and the Korean War, passed away on October 6, 2021 at the age of 100. Mr. Butts was born October 2, 1921 to Arthur and Julie (Mizell) Butts and enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 1941. Attaining the rank of Master Sergeant in the Marine Corps, Mr. Butts saw action in World War 2 in the Pacific theatre and in the Korean War. Mr. Butts earned a Purple Heart in the Korean War after being severely wounded at the Chosin Reservoir on December 7th, 1950. After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1952, Mr. Butts worked as a Civil Servant at Brookley Field (and then Keesler Air Force Base) until his retirement in 1974. Mr. Butts is preceded in death by his wife, Ora (Hendry), his parents and siblings. He is survived by four children, Robert (Linda), Phillip (Sandra), Karen Willard (Darrell) and Linda Fuqua (James) as well as 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Mr. Butts will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
