Olavee Mathews Miller, 78, beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Sister, was called to her eternal resting place on April 29, 2020. She entered this world on August 12, 1941, in Baton Rouge, LA, born to Aswell and Martha Mathews.She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Miller; son John Miller; son Christopher Miller, daughter-in-law Yumi Miller; granddaughter Jessica Miller; grandson Christopher (CJ) Miller; niece Natalie Foreman; nephew Brett Foreman; nephew John Foreman; Sister-in-law Margaret Jacob, niece Leigh Parks. Olavee was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Bernard Miller and daughter, Lesley Dru Miller.The Mathews family moved from Baton Rouge to Mobile when Vee was just three years old. She attended Leinkauf Elementary and was part of the Julius T. Wright School for Girls graduating class of 1959 and was a member of the Phi Gamma Chi sorority. On February 6th, 1965, she married Frederick Miller and went on to have 4 children. Vee worked at Merchants National Bank/First Alabama Bank & retired in 1995 with more than 25 years of service. She loved to follow and talk about politics, travel and especially to spend time with her grandchildren. She was a great southern chef in her own right and amassed an impressive library of southern cookbooks over her lifetime. Diagnosed with colon cancer in 2009, she beat the odds by living another 10 years. Few people knew of the extent of her daily struggle. Her joy for life and indomitable spirit kept her pushing through the pain and she will be missed by all that knew her.A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 4th at 9:00am.
