Ouida Johnson Nelson, age 96, passed away on December 12, 2024 in Mobile Alabama. She was born to Pearl Johnson and Tom Johnson on November 17, 1928, in Samson, Alabama.
Mrs. Nelson worked for the Mobile County Public School System as a Cafeteria Manager and bus driver for Nan Gray Davis Elementary School for over 35 years. Mrs. Nelson was a lifelong member of the Oak Park Church in Mobile where she had the honor of renaming the church when it relocated to a larger location. Mrs. Nelson was the eldest continuing living member. She worshipped at Oak Park with passion as the Prime Timers President for many years, a Sunday School Teacher and served on several ladies ministry boards. She enjoyed gardening, taking care of her beautiful flowers, helping neighbors, and church friends. Mrs. Nelson is preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 77 years, Willie L. Nelson, Sr., son Willie L. Nelson, Jr. (nick-named “Double Double”), grandson, Stephen Edward Roberts, and great-granddaughter Kali Nicole Allen. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jane (Carl) Roberts, Wayne (Kathy) Nelson, Elaine (Woody) Roberts and Gail Nelson Young, 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Services will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the Oak Park Church, located at 3321 Sollie Road, with visitation from 9 AM until the 10 AM service.
