Paula Jan Wiggins, known affectionately by everyone as Paula, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2023, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on January 5, 1954, in Mobile, Alabama, she was 69 years old. Paula was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, whose generous, loving, and selfless spirit touched countless lives.
Paula was the cherished wife of Lenard Wiggins for over 40 years. Their bond was a testament to true love and partnership. Together, they raised two children, Nicholas Wiggins and Valerie (Ray) Cobb. She was predeceased by her son, James Brian Wiggins. Paula's legacy continues through her grandchildren, James Mason Wiggins, James Brian Cobb (Ashley), Alexis Cobb, and Colin Cobb, and great-grandchildren, Taylor Cobb and Hudson Cobb. She is also survived by her two Australian Shepherds, Allie and Blue. She also leaves behind her brother, John Harrison (Niva). She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman E. and Louise Harrison.
Paula was a lifelong learner who held a Master's degree in Social Work from Troy University. She also continued her education journey at Montevallo University. A dedicated and passionate social worker, Paula spent many years working for Wiregrass Rehab Services. Her expertise and empathy also led her to become a licensed grief counselor, offering comfort and guidance to those navigating the most challenging times. She was a member of Roeton Baptist Church where she worshipped her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A woman of many talents and interests, Paula was an avid seamstress who found joy in sewing and quilting. She was also a talented cook, known for her divine spaghetti, her gumbo, and cathead biscuits that brought family and friends together. Paula's creativity extended to her writing. She authored numerous unpublished books, ranging from children's tales to murder mysteries and romances, showcasing her imaginative and diverse storytelling abilities. Her children and grandchildren's favorite story she wrote was about a dragon named Rasafus. Her favorite part of the day was sitting on her porch in the early mornings, watching a "dragon be born" over the pond within the mist. Some of Paula's favorite things were butterflies and dragonflies.
Paula had an enduring love for Elvis Presley and Princess Diana, admiring their charisma and humanitarian efforts. Her interests were a reflection of her personality - passionate and full of love for the world around her.
Throughout her life, Paula was a beacon of generosity, love, and selflessness. Her warm spirit and kind heart left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was a source of strength and comfort to her family, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand. Her unwavering love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life.
In her passing, Paula leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service to others. Her memory will be treasured by her family and by all those whose lives she touched. Paula Jan Wiggins, a remarkable woman, will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
