He was born in the tiny mountain village of Paleochori in the Arkadia province of southern Greece on November 30th, 1945 to Ioannis and Eugenia Grevenitis. He would go on to complete his secondary education in the coastal city of Leonidion, in the same province. This is where he would eventually meet his future wife of 48 years, Katerina Zorgias. It was also from there that he would join the Greek Merchant Marines and ascend to First/Chief Officer of his vessel. He would see the world and its major ports from this post. He decided to seek a better life for himself and his future family and immigrate to another port city, Mobile, AL, in 1974. He initially, like many other Greek immigrants, operated a service station in Saraland, AL, but eventually transitioned into the seafood industry. He became a mainstay in Bayou La Batre for nearly four decades, establishing a lasting legacy with Olympic Shellfish, one of the finest crabmeat production facilities in the area.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ioannis and Eugenia Grevenitis. He is survived by his wife, Katerina Grevenitis, and sons, Yiannis (Evangelia) and Panayiotis (Sonia) Grevenitis. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren- Penelope, Aria, Aris, Lily, and Isadora. He is also survived by relatives in Greece including his sister Adamantia Vlami (Takis), Niece Themi Manos (Elias) and their children and nephew Nikos Vlami (Penelope).

Condolences on our loss and may you rest in peace. I am saddened by the missed opportunity for us to have known each other as well as your granddaughter, despite my attempts. I hoped you would make amends before your death, so I’m not surprised the obituary is missing some information, like the fact you were married to my mother and you are my birth father. Of course, this was all before starting your new life and new family in Mobile. I have the marriage and birth certificate if anyone has any questions.
My prayers and deepest sympathy to you Dr.G and your family. The Late Mrs.Emma Hatch daughter with Love.
