Phyllis Dunnam - Mobile Memorial Gardens

Phyllis Dunnam

1937-2021
Phyllis Summersgill Dunnam passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 12, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 6th, 1937, to Hanson and Ruth (Hendrix) Summersgill in Whistler, Alabama. She married Lewis Nathan Dunnam Jr. on October 5th, 1956. Together they raised 2 sons. Phyllis had a 50+ long years career as a hairdresser, owning her own salon for many years and contributing to America's Junior Miss Pageants as a hair stylist to the contestants, which she greatly enjoyed! She was an excellent seamstress, along with having a talent for crochet and embroidery projects. She would happily gift others with a special creation of hers as well as sharing her talent to others by teaching them to crochet or embroider. Phyllis also had a great love for her family, her greatest joy was to have them all together for her famous gumbo, a Dunnam family Christmas tradition. She was quite well known for her baked creations with her pound cakes and chocolate chip cookies being a favorite by many! She spent many happy weekends at the Gulf camping with her family and many friends. She was a champion water skier and taught many young people over the years. Her own 2 boys could practically ski before they could walk. She was so generous and welcomed all into her home. She supported her sons in their hot rod interests and earned herself the nickname of "Hot Rod Granny" as she cruised around in her baby blue 1977 Corvette. Phyllis touched so many lives over the years and she was beloved by all that knew her. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years. L.N. Dunnam Jr; 2 sons, Lewis Dunnam III, Guy Dunnam (Terrie); 4 grandsons, Lewis Dunnam IV (Ashley), Brian Dunnam (Amy), Justin Dunnam (Mandy), and Mitchell Dunnam; 5 great granddaughters, McKenzie Dunnam, Lainey Dunnam, Katerina Dunnam, Camille Dunnam, and Belle Strahan.
