Richard Phillip Crigler, Sr., a native of West Point, MS and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died Thursday, December 12, 2019 at the age of 88. Richard worked for the City of Mobile; was employed with the GM&O Railroad in the Engineering Division Maintenance of Way and was self-employed from 1972 until 1996 with the Alabama Construction and Railroad Maintenance Corporation. He was ordained a deacon at the Navco Baptist Church on September 24, 1974 and has been a member and department director at Dauphin Way Baptist Church since 1984. He graduated from Murphy High School in 1949; and he received a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Auburn University in 1961 and was licensed by the State of Alabama as a Professional Engineering and Land Surveyor in 1967. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Leigh Crigler and Hallie York Crigler; two brothers; four sisters; and his first wife and mother of his children, Mary Ann Arant Crigler. His survivors include his wife, Mary Virginia Jeffcoat Crigler; six sons, Phil (Debbie) Crigler, Gary (Debbie) Crigler, Mike (Deeron) Crigler, Steve (Jean Ann) Crigler, Reggie Crigler and Rod (Anita) Crigler; his only daughter, Mary Crigler Franklin; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; extended family; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 16, 2019 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, from 12:00 Noon until service time. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
