Richard George Barbour Sr.

Richard “Dick” George Barbour, Sr., 96, of Mobile, AL passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, at home. Dick was born in Montoursville, PA on July 6, 1929. He was the son of the late Herman L. and Marian (Martin) Barbour. Dick was predeceased by his beautiful bride, Elizabeth “Lib” Barbour, brothers, Robert (Grace) Barbour, Jack (Dolores) Barbour, and one sister, Carol (Ron) Bair. Dick is survived by his sons Richard (Karen) George Barbour Jr., Crandall (Denise) Bass Barbour, and Brian (Julie) Thomas Barbour, 11 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren. Dick graduated from Montoursville Area High School in 1947. After high school he went into the Air Force service for 4 years. He then attended Springhill College where he received his bachelor’s degree in accounting. Dick was married to his wife, Lib Barbour. They met on a blind date that blossomed into a magical, long, and beautiful marriage of nearly 69 years. Dick and Lib loved each other dearly and raised 3 handsome sons together. Dick enjoyed a long and varied career at the International Paper Company for 25 years as a manager/supervisor. Dick was a long-time active member of Community of Christ where he was ordained as a high priest. He served as a pastor of the congregation as well as district president of the Mobile District. He was actively involved with the Bluff Springs Campgrounds where he served as Treasurer. He enjoyed singing in the choir and ministering to others. Dick loved spending time with his family and telling wonderful stories about his childhood and young adulthood with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dick will be remembered by his tight hugs, firm handshake, handsome smile and his beautiful love for his family, church family, and friends. The last few months of his life, he was taken care of by his wonderful sitters with Family First Care Givers.

A memorial service will be held at 11am with visitation preceding at 10am on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Community of Christ, 672 Azalea Dr, Mobile, AL 36609.
