Robert Charles Alexander

July 9, 2024
Robert C. “Bob” Alexander was born to Robert Earl and Nannie Lou Hogg Alexander on September 28, 1931, in Bearden, Arkansas. He died peacefully on July 7, 2024, in Mobile, Alabama, surrounded by his family. Bob was raised on the family farm, the youngest of five siblings: sisters Lorice Alexander Ramsay Dunlap; Dorothy Alexander Elliott; and Vada Jean Alexander Howze; and brother, John E. Alexander, all of whom pre-deceased Bob. He was Salutatorian of the Bearden (Arkansas) High School Class of 1949, and was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served as a military policeman in the Sixth Army, stationed at the Presidio in the San Francisco Bay area. While in the Army Bob married his soulmate, Rachel Ann Eubank, October 19, 1951. At the time of his death, they had been married over 72 years. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Army, Bob returned home to Arkansas where he began his career as an accountant with International Paper Company. The company transferred him to Mobile in 1972 where he spent the remainder of his life. Bob retired from IPCo as Operations Manager of the Standard Products Division of the company after forty years of service. Retirement gave Bob the opportunity to serve his community as a volunteer with Providence Hospital in Mobile. He spent over twenty years assisting patients and families of cardiology and surgery patients at Providence, and came to be known as a dependable, empathetic and compassionate member of the volunteer pool at the hospital. Bob and Rachel raised two children, Robert Alan and Karen Sue. Karen predeceased Bob in 2020. Alan and his wife, Stephanie K. Alexander, survive Bob. From their union, Alan and Stephanie gave Bob and Rachel two grandchildren, Robert C. Alexander, II, and Dr. Ann Kay Adkins Alexander, both of whom survive their grandfather. His grandchildren were a great source of pride for Bob, as was his beloved grand-dog, “Trixie.” Bob is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Bob and Rachel were long-time members of Dauphin Way Baptist Church in Mobile, where he served as a deacon and a valuable member of various committees of the church.
